Students will be wearing their traditional dress and bright clothing at the Black Campus Carnival!

They start on the ground floor of the Student Centre at 12 pm and will parade around campus showing the bright and colourful Black community that exists at Bournemouth University.

This emotive photography exhibition by Robert Golden offers an intimate insight into the lives and experiences of the Windrush generation, 25 years after their arrival in the UK. Alongside poetry by Shaniqua Benjamin, this new exhibition explores ideas of belonging, cultural difference, and the ways people respond to social change.

Celeste is a drama group created by Vita Nova to help improve your English speaking and reading skills. It’s also a lovely place to make new friends.

Celeste will be working on a play called Refugee Nativity, which looks at the Christmas story from the perspective of the current refugee crisis. If you would like to take part you are very welcome. Don't worry if you have never done drama before.

This short event will bring together educators, students, researchers and policymakers to launch 'The Case for Global Learning'. Everyone is welcome to join.

Colleagues across and beyond The Global Learning Network have developed The Case for Global Learning as a call to arms to address the issues facing our planet!

Pupils at Heatherlands Primary school in Poole and Mudeford Junior school in Christchurch have been exploring the impact of litter on the local and global environment.

Working with Sarah from DEED, and Mirek from LucanArt, groups of Year 5 pupils have designed artwork for drains in their school grounds to encourage everyone to look down and consider where their litter goes when it is thrown ‘away’.

The Dorset One World Festival is a free local event to celebrate the diversity of cultures in Dorchester through music, dance, food and activities. The event will feature a programme of both traditional and modern cultural activities performed by local communities.

This year marks 30 years of the FAIRTRADE mark

To celebrate, DEED, Fair Ground (Wimborne’s Fairtrade shop) and the Wimborne Minster & Colehill Fairtrade Community are offering a limited number of local schools a FREE Fairtrade Stall during Fairtrade Fortnight (9-22 September 2024).

We are now in Ramadan and alongside a Muslim mother and educator, Tiny Travels has co-created a guide to help teachers and nursery staff ensure that children are learning about the beauty of Ramadan and that Muslim cultural events are not being excluded from settings calendars. 

This free, unique, bilingual performance aims to showcase the resilience of women who have migrated from Ukraine to BCP & Dorset, sharing their experiences through spoken word, song, and dance.

Our guest speaker is Sharon Muiruri Coyne, Artistic Director of Vita Nova & Celeste, Freelance Creative Facilitator & Community Researcher for the 'Where We Can Call Home' project.

Sharon has been a close collaborator working with DEED for several years.

Vita Nova & Friends are presenting an adaption of the traditional story of the nativity reworked to highlight the current refugee crisis. Written by Sharon Coyne this is an extremely powerful performance put together with many messages to hear.

Come along and enjoy an evening celebrating the multicultural history of Dorset and how music can bring together people, sounds and styles from many different subcultures. Featuring live music from Ska band The Guns of Navarone, interviews and film.

The ‘Brown Babies’ exhibition tells the story of Black GIs in Britain during the war from the perspective of the white women and Black GI's and the children who were born as a result of these relationships.

Hopefool is a play for young people and adults that promotes peace in a time of conflict. For young people, especially witnessing the horror of war from around the world, can make people feel hopeless. Hopefool is about reminding people that we do have a voice and we can make a difference however small in promoting unity and love.

Africa Comes to Bournemouth is an annual celebration of culture, community, and causes. Their event brings together vibrant entertainment, enriching experiences, and a shared commitment to raise awareness and support important causes.
