We’re part of Small World Festival

In these recent days when people have been trying to divide us, DEED is proud to be part of the Small World Festival bringing people together.

Come join us to celebrate diversity in Bridport on Saturday 14 September.

Small World is a new mini-festival from Jurassic Multicultural and DEED celebrating the diverse cultures that make our community so vibrant.

Bridport Arts Centre from 10 am
World food stalls and crafts on the forecourt. Inside the Marlow Theatre, listen to Dr Khalil Thirlaway interviewing local Multicultural people about their lives. In the foyer will be our ‘Alphabet of Togetherness’, a creative writing project facilitated by local author Ioana Morpurgo.

Bridport Community Orchard from 12 pm
Activities for all ages, delicious free food from around the world (just bring your picnic blanket, plate and cutlery), performances, art, demonstrations and drumming workshops. Keep an eye on Jurassic Multicultural’s Facebook page for updates.

Ticketed event in the evening at Bridport Arts Centre (£8 per person)
A screening of ‘Can I Live’ a vital new digital performance about the climate catastrophe conceived, written and performed by Fehinti Balogun who shares his personal journey into the biggest challenge of our times. Weaving his story with spoken word, rap, theatre, animation and the scientific facts, Fehinti charts a course through the fundamental issues underpinning the emergency, identifying the intimate relationship between the environmental crisis & the global struggle for social justice, and sharing how, as a young Black British man, he has found his place in the climate movement.”,  This will be followed by a quick Q&A led by Dr Khalil Thirlaway.

Elijah Wolf and Chiman101 will be performing a collaborative track from the viewpoint of a prisoner on death row.  You can find out more on Elijah’s Podcast.

To finish the night, DJ Chiman101 will take you ‘Around the World in 80 Beats’ an auditory journey through music’s global influences.

Small World Festival’s debut is part of Bridport’s Town of Culture programme; Small World is a new mini-festival from Jurassic Multicultural, celebrating the diverse cultures that make our community so vibrant.
