Where We Can Call Home

This is an exciting new community heritage project researching, recording and celebrating the contribution of people from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s ethnically diverse communities, led by Citizens Advice BCP and DEED.

The years between the census of 2002 and 2021 have seen a huge shift to a more culturally and socially diverse local authority. This project aims to raise awareness of the rich cultural heritage of BCP and the legacy of the people who live here.

Thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Lottery players, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved with the project which will create a photographic and audio exhibition for public display; a series of podcasts and interviews discussing local issues; a mapping app to learn more about the history of diversity in our local neighbourhoods; and a storytelling festival to learn more about community heritage.

“This project will create a new, authentic, people-centred community-based heritage for the whole of BCP to enjoy! It is a unique opportunity to connect people with the migration story and build more empathy, respect and understanding by bringing local people together.”
