Surya’s Story is a not-to-be-missed community performance filled with drama, dance and music

Wednesday 15th June 6.30 pm
Vita Nova, 11 Roumelia Lane, Boscombe BH5 1EU

An entertaining and captivating blend of drama, dance, music and video projection that focuses on the tough lives experienced by many children in rural India.

Written by Sharon (Muiruri) Coyne this theatre in education piece tells the story of a young girl, Surya, who sews pieces of leather to make footballs. Like many children in third world countries, what little she earns helps to feed her family.

The play aims to help students understand the inequalities brought about by globalisation and the way in which some children are exploited.

This special performance is dedicated to Surya Arts’ friend and colleague Wendy Lalla Wharam who was involved in this project from the very beginning when it emerged from the then Bournemouth Theatre in Education Team.

Wendy was fantastic in her role as Shanti, the village gossip, and was loved by all the team. She was known for her energy, love and great cultural knowledge and will be very deeply missed by her friends and colleagues.
